I tried the Kylie Lip Kit and ended up crying in the bathroom

KISS IT GOODBYE: Holding up Dolce K in liquid lipgloss, I put for a quick selfie right after application. After this moment the color started to wear off and it became a nightmare situation.

The youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner family has been the center of controversy in the media since the internet exploded with the “Kylie Jenner Challenge.” Using her new found publicity, Jenner has become a full blown entrepreneur and fashion icon since the release of her lip kits in 2015.

Jenner first released three lip kits off of her website, kyliecosmetics.com. The kits included a lip liner and a liquid lipstick in three colors, candy K, dolce K, and true brown K.

Costing $29 the kits sold out and were an instant hit, causing Jenner to expand her production and company.

Today, there are eight lipstick kits available online, and three lipglosses available. Each time, all products sell out within a day of restocking.

“Every time I go to buy one they sell out, it so frustrating!” says an anonymous junior.

Social media has been buzzing with Jenner’s new found entrepreneurship and makeup gurus rave about the lip line.

Since the lip kits are a huge success, I had to see if they lived up to their reputation, so I ordered one online.

Unfortunately for me, I was not allowed to open mine until my birthday (thanks mom) so instead I politely borrowed my friend Alexa’s using the implied consent method.

I tried out Dolce K, which has a brown tint to it. The color was very matte and gave off a darker natural look.

The first thing I noticed was the boxing, the kits were meticulously boxed. The boxing looked very clean, but also very edgy and bold and I felt bad even opening it.

I used the lip liner first and was taken aback by how smoothly it glided onto my lips. The liner had excellent pigmentation and it did not rub on my lips roughly, despite me putting it on without a lip primer.

The liner’s smooth application was helpful for properly lining and establishing a  natural-looking overline of the lips.

Next I used the liquid lipstick. Right away I noticed the great pigmentation of color, as I only needed a thin layer. However, I found some issues with the formula.

The color is very matte, and since its cold and my lips are dry it showed every crack in my lips. It also felt very heavy despite having a thin layer on, and I felt like I had chalk on my lips.

Because it was so matte and felt so dry, I found myself reapplying in order to get some moisture, which just made the problem worse.

Another issue was it longevity. The color stayed well on the edges, but faded fast closer to my mouth and teeth. Because of this, again I was forced to reapply and make my lips feel thicker.

“Matte lipsticks can be so annoying and always make my mouth feel dry. When I tried the lip kit I found myself needing to drink water to remind myself I wasn’t on a desert island,” says an anonymous sophomore.

Eventually, I just had to physically scrub the lipstick off of my lips and opt for a tinted lipgloss instead because I could not bear to have the weight on my lips any longer.

The process of taking it off was awful and messy. Since I did not have remover on me the process took a whole box of tissues.

I was stuck washing it off my lips for so long and I was getting so frustrated that I even started crying a little. It seemed like every time I thought I got it off, I ended up with it smudged on my face, or I uncovered another layer of lipstick.

I ended up using just the lip liner for the rest of the night since it did not leave my lips feeling heavy or trapped.

Although I had some issues with the formula, the color was excellent.  Dolce K, in particular, looks like a new color on varying skin tones, which was evident when I put the color on Alexa.

When Alexa wore it, hers looked much darker than mine. She layered it on with a gloss and was able to wear it the whole night.

Despite my somewhat messy situation, the lip kits were definitely a good buy and I would recommend them.

Now, if anyone wants to send me a lipgloss to review I would be very appreciative.

Which lip kit would you buy?
