Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Amir Khan fought last saturday night at the T mobile arena in Las Vegas Arena. Alvarez looked very impressive against Khan scoring a late knockout.

Alvarez coming into the bout was slated to fight Gennady Golovkin in a highly anticipated superfight. However Promoter and Managers of the fighters agreed that they would fight in the fall. Golovkin fought Dominic Wade last April knocking him out in two rounds.

At the beginning of the fight Khan surprised many by boxing and ducking and dodging most of Alvarez’s sledgehammer like power punches. The first three rounds Khan was able to evasively outbox Alvarez using brilliant footwork and landing very fast combinations to close out rounds. Alvarez looked frustrated and was unable to suppress khans speed and boxing ability.

However, Alvarez in the fourth round on was able to successfully land impactful power punches that had an affect on Khan. Alvarez looked impressive in the fifth round cutting of the ring and hitting khan with boulder like punches. In the closing seconds of the sixth round Alvarez knocked out Khan.

When asked in an interview about the supposed superfight Golovkin said, ” I am ready to fight and am willing to negotiate with Golden Boy Promotions( Alvarez’s Promotion). Tell Oscar De La Hoya to call Oleg Hermann.”

The World Boxing Council recently gave both Golden Boy and Tom Loeffler a fifteen day period to make the fight. Last year the WBC allowed both fighters to make defenses of their titles however they had to fight each other or their chance at the WBC middleweight championship would be lost.

It was reported Sunday that both both De La Hoya and Loeffler had briefly discussed the posibility of the megafight. Both promoters stated that they indeed did meet and are planning to talk more on Tuesday. Although the have been no reports made of them having a formal negotiations.

Junior Vince Cantello said, ” I hope this fight happens soon and doesn’t take place years later like the Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao bout.”

The Pacquiao vs Mayweather bout took place six years after fans waited and waited. The two camps fought over drug testing and bout location.

With the new regulations of the WBC people may not have to wait a long time for the bout. Many speculate that the bout will not happen and both camps will move on.

Many trainers such as Teddy Atlas and Joel Diaz do not think that Alvarez will not move up in weight. As others believe that Golovkin will not down in weight.

Junior Kyle Rabe said, ” As a long time fan of the sport I think that it would be a huge disappointment for the two fighters not to have a bout. I do anticipate that both fighters will fighters will fight next year if negotiations are not finalized in the 15 day window.”

If Both Golovkin and Alvarez do not fight in the near future it would be a detriment to both of their careers. What will it take for both fighters to finally have a bout? What other bouts do you look forward to seeing made?
